Cortlandt Manor resident Vasel Balbona was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 16 in connection with an incident that occurred months earlier in July 2024 in Yorktown, Yorktown Police said on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

According to the department, on the day of the crash at around 11:05 a.m., officers responded to a report of a two-car accident on Route 118. Upon arrival, police found that the driver of one vehicle had allegedly left the scene after striking another car from behind, police said.

Balbona then allegedly failed to stay in his lane and entered the opposite lane of travel before colliding with an oncoming vehicle near the intersection with Route 100, the department said.

Further investigation revealed that Balbona was operating his vehicle with a revoked license due to prior DWI convictions and without an interlock device as required by law. Additionally, police alleged he had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .18% or more at the time of the crashes.

Balbona faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated with two prior convictions, a felony; two felony counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, one felony count of aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, and several misdemeanor and traffic violations.

After his arrest, Balbona was arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court before Judge George Nicholas-On-Pierison. He was then remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail and is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
